Vaun Marie McIntosh, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Cloverlodge Care Center, St. Edward, Nebraska.

Vaun, daughter of Albert and Grace (Higgins) Beers, was born August 11, 1916, on her parents' farm near Riverdale, Nebraska.

Vaun grew up in the Riverdale and Kearney, Nebraska, area and graduated from Kearney (NE.) High School in 1936. She worked many odd jobs until the spring of 1941, when she went to northern California to visit her sister and met her future husband.

Vaun was united in marriage to Gerald LeRoy McIntosh on November 14, 1941 at the Methodist parsonage, Kearney, Nebraska.

While Gerald entered the US Army in December 1941, Vaun remained in Nebraska, working until he was honorably discharged in 1945.

The couple returned to California, where they lived on a dairy farm until moving to Genoa, Nebraska, in 1948. In 1950, they moved to a farm south of St. Edward, Nebraska and in 1953, they moved to a farm southwest of St. Edward, Nebraska.

While on the farm, Vaun was a housewife, raising their children, raising chickens and hogs, milking cows, growing a large vegetable garden and did a lot of canning.

They retired from farming in 1987 and moved into St. Edward, Nebraska.

Vaun was a kind and caring woman who enjoyed reading, writing letters, gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking, playing solitaire, collecting stamps and salt and pepper shakers, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Vaun is survived by: son, James McIntosh and wife Anna of St. Edward, Nebraska; daughters, Loreen Swanson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Janet Steinbach and husband Floyd of Fullerton, Nebraska and Mary Schmidt of Columbus, Nebraska; grandchildren, Scott McIntosh and wife Alicia of Wayne, Nebraska, Lori McIntosh of St. Edward, Nebraska, Becky Steinbach of Central City, Nebraska, Brenda Hedglin and husband Dave of Central City, Nebraska, Bryan Steinbach of Fullerton, Nebraska, Beth Swanson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jon Swanson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Amy Wagner and husband Damon of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Justin Schmidt of Lincoln, Nebraska and Courtney Bloebaum of Columbus, Nebraska; great-grandchildren, BrieAnne and Emma Wagner, Lizzy Hedglin, Kendall Steinbach, Haley Bloebaum and Dexter McIntosh; brother-in-law, Deward McIntosh of Palmer, Nebraska; sister-in-law Bernie McIntosh of St. Edward, Nebraska and a host of family and friends.
