The book "Delph" by Laura Moncrief is 40 years of research and this memorial IS GOING to be changed to MATCH her book and the SOURCES she has and names in that book.... most decidedly the mtDNA tests that irrefutably prove that OUR g-g-g-g gramma is still unknown not Elizabeth Boyer or Anna Milbank................

*Daniel Delp/Delph (son of Peter Delp and Eve Richtbacher/Reichbacher) was born 1776 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and died September 1860 in Hawkins County, Tennessee."
"The proof of Eve Reichbacher, Daniel's mother is from the family BIBLE."
above data done by Carole Conrad

There are so many QUESTIONS in this information that we must do more research and will ADD (verbatim) any/all PROOF that we find & place an * in front. any help from anybody will be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

FIRST WIFE:
* VIRGINIA, MARRIAGES, 1785-1940
NAME: Danl DELPH
Spouses NAME: ANNA MILLBANK
Event DATE: January 05, 1798
Event PLACE: Madison County, Virginia
Spouses fathers name: Jno. Millbank."
THIS IS THEIR DANIEL DELPH b: 1779 VA

as per the rootsweb TREE Descendants of Michael Clore/ Nicholas Yager..they have tons of sources listed. THIS "Daniel Delph born 1779 VA & the Anna Millbank that this marriage record" is for states that this "Daniel's parents were: George Conrad Delph/Elizabeth Snyder." And they also have sources that give their children before their
DIVORCE in Dec. 1813 as being only 4: Banks Delph -Jeremiah b: 1802 VA-John Millbank Delph b: Aug. 18 1805 va- William E. Delph They also give Anna's 2nd husband as Achilles Stapp married Dec. 1813-Scott Co. KY.
SOURCES: 5-6 books THE DELPH FAMILY
I believe that Anna Millbank IS there's and we need to search further to find our fist wife, the mother to the 7 kids that Laura Lee Moncrief talks about.

Even IF we have to delete the above marriage record and Anna Millbank, none of the children born to their Daniel/ Anna match any of the kids that we have found in family records, EXCEPT one, they name a William E. Delph that migrated to Metamore Il...well found the 1870 census for Metamora for William age 72 (1798) married to Mary..
Wonder if this is the William, that was named as our Daniels first son born 1799?? But this may be the OTHER Daniel/Anna Millbank Delph's son, see above data.

1. Unknown MOTHER..was born ca. 1776, she would have been 23 yrs old when she gave birth to her first child. She/Daniel had 7 children. We believe she died after birth of her last kid with Daniel ca. 1810/1811, she was 35 at this time, and Bef. March 29, 1812 when a Daniel married, Elizabeth Boyer. (or maybe not)

"Daniel's 1st wife's first name is often known only as MRS. DANIEL DELPH. They married circa 1799. "We say ca. 1799 because apparently they had an eldest son b: 1799". The older son that is named William in some familysearch.org TREES .

"As per the book "DELPH" by Laura Lee Moncrief, she gives us evidence that the 1st wife, some sources mention, Anna Milbank, actually married a different Daniel Delph" "There is DNA evidence that Daniel's first 7 children came but from one mother. Who still may remain an elusive, UNKNOWN"
--BUT my question is, is the Daniel Delph that the DNA study has been done for and only "1 mother to all 7 children" IS in fact OUR Daniel Delph, son of Peter/Eve Delph?

SECOND WIFE

2. A Daniel Delph married (2 ELIZABETH BOYER (B: 1780 Grayson,VA D: UNK before June 13,1813) on March 29, 1812 in Grayson, Virginia, daughter of William Boyer and 1st wife Elizabeth d. before 1783.
(Elizabeth Boyer-Delp's father William's second wife was also an Elizabeth. They had a son: Daniel B Boyer b. January 17, 1783, Elk Creek, Grayson, Virginia, d. December 19, 1852 . This son was EBD's half brother.)

* Virginia, MARRIAGES, 1785-1940
NAME: DAVID DELPH
SPOUSE's NAME: ELIZABETH BOYER
EVENT DATE; 29 MARCH 1812
EVENT PLACE: Grayson Co. Virginia
GS film 31758
can not find one for a Daniel only the DAVID DELPH

The marriage of Daniel to Elizabeth is known to be 29 March 1812, she was 32 yrs. old. If she got pregnant immediately, 8-9 months later, would be November or December, she gave birth to Sarah and died in child birth 1812 leaving Daniel with now 8 children to raise by himself. She was 32, kind of old to have a first birth.
---If he was indeed married previously, to Mrs. Daniel Delph that bore him 7 kids???
This is only speculation giving the data and dates and time period.
by Carole Taylor

"And there is also some sources that say Daniel married an Elizabeth Boyer in 1812 but apparently that was also a different Daniel Delph. OR it was in fact the DAVID DELPH. OMGosh!" Say that again!!!!OMG!

THIRD WIFE
all info for Margaret written by Carole Conrad
the * PROOF added by Carole Taylor

3. A Daniel Delph married (3) MARGARET COUCH-DELPH on June 13, 1813 in Grayson, Virginia.
headstone photo on the memorial. #16023426
* Margaret DELPH B: 1796 (N. Car.)
D: June 5, 1875 Madison County, Indiana*
Which means she was 17 years old when Daniel married her.

Margaret, Daughter of Jeremiah Couch/Agatha Gibson (buried Clinch River) Grdparents: James Couch/Elizabeth Powers Thomas Gibson/Ann Unknown. He had a brother Thomas T. the rootsweb sites agree that Daniel DEMPSEY's parents were: James B:1739/Elizabeth POWERS & 2 trees agree that Jeremiah/Agatha Gibson are actually Dempsey's brother/wife. none of these TREES give sources.

FOUND IT! where the Bratton comes from, a different person.
a marriage record Tenn.Marriages 1790-1950
Daniel Delp to Margaret BRATTON 21 DEC. 1831 Gibson TN.
The above marriage record is here because someone had changed Margaret's maiden name from COUCH to Bratten ???
Speculation, maybe this is a son of our DANIEL B: 1776 our Daniel would be 55 at the time of this marriage...

* VIRGINIA, MARRIAGES, 1785-1940
NAME: Daniel DELP
SPOUSE: Peggy COUCH
DATE: 13 Jun. 1813
PLACE: Grayson Co. VA.
GS Film # 31758

* 1850 Dist. #3 (War Gap) Hawkins Co. Tennessee
DANIEL DELPH age 74 M Farmer N.C.
Margaret age 22 F N.C.
Margaret age 22 F Tenn
Mary age 21 F Tenn.
Eliza age 18 F Tenn.
Jane age 16 F Tenn.
Jackson age 14 M Tenn.
Wilson age 12 M Tenn.*
no relationship is shown, I do believe the age for the first Margaret is wrong. the place of birth is correct for the wife- Margaret Couch-Delph born in N.C her age s/b 52 not 22. and then I assume the 6 teenagers listed would be their kids, the last one listed is definitely WILSON (Male) not Melissa (Female) 1838.
This census info by Carole Taylor

* 1860 P.O.War Gap,Dist #3 Hawkins Tennessee
DANIEL DELPH age 84 Farmer VA>> (wrong)
MARGARET DELPH AGE 64 N.CAROLINA
MARY DELPH age 30 domestic TENN.
MARTHA DELPH AGE 26 " "
ELIZA DELPH age 27 " "
MALISSA DELPH age 24 " "
GEORGE DELPH age 14 Tenn
ANDREW J. AGE 5 TENN
ANDERSON DELPH AGE 22 F.L. Tenn*
NOTE The 1850 census has Daniel/Margaret both born N.C and the kids names match. So I feel this IS the correct Daniel/ Margaret. The 4 girls are still unmarried..the ages match the kids dates of birth that we have.
MARTHA on the census probably the JANE on the 1850?
And here is Malissa that was not listed on the 1850???
and GEORGE born 1846... that would be #12 OR maybe he is a grandson? Turns out I believe he is, Jacob/Mary's son. and there is an Andrew J. (Jackson) maybe he is a grandson? there is one on the 1850, but 5 years old??? on the 1850 census he is 14 years old so here he should be 24 not 5...and who is the ANDERSON DELPH age 22? maybe he is a grandson?

we can narrow down the family move to Indiana as being after Sept. 1860 when Daniel died & before 1864 when Andrew J DELPH/Margaret's (Margaret born in Indiana) first child, Esther was born in Ind, as per 1870 census. Also A.J. Jr was born Tenn. and his dad joined WAR in Tenn. 1862 and out in 1863. And A.J. Newberry, Margarets husband died in Indiana 1866.

* 1870 census Adams, Madison, Indiana
DELPH,, Andrew J. age 34 Farmer TENN
DELPH, Margaret (wife?) age 31 keeping house Indiana
" Esther A age 7 at home Ind.
" Lurah A. age 4 Ind.
" Ralph age 3/12 Ind
Newberry, A.J Male age 15 farm laborer TENN
NEXT LINE and next door is:
DELPH, MARGARET age:74 Keep house blind W.VA. (???)
DELPH, MARY age: 40 at home W.VA (?)
Newberry, M. Female age 46 at home W.VA(?)
(I think the state born on these people is wrong should be N.C for Margaret the age is right 1796 & Mary never got married, her age is right 1830 TENN
"Newberry M. Female age: 46"
GOSH! "Newberry, M argaret married A.J Newberry 1830" age is not quite right s/b 1828, living with Andrew J is "Newberry, A.J. age 15". MUST be JR. Margaret's son by A.J., so he was born in Tenn in 1855..and they made the move with Mom/brother.

Margratia SLAUGHTER married Andrew J. Delph, she was B: 1836 D: 1875 Indiana & is buried next to her mother-in-law Margaret Couch-Delph/ Stephen Delph.. memorial #16023009
(they had another son after the 1870 census, William R. b: 1872)

Daniel/Margaret Couch-Delph had 11 kids together. Margaret moved to Indiana after his death & is buried there in Adams Township, Madison Co. . FAG Memorial # 16023426

ALL OF DANIEL'S CHILDREN
by Carole Conrad

I- 7 CHILDREN of ANNA MILBANK (UNKNOWN) !# wife & Daniel Delp are:

** i. Susannah Delph, b:1800 Grayson Co.,VA d: unk. after the 1870 census-Mar.:Daniel Dempsey COUCH as per Marriage record 21 FEB 1822 Grayson, VA. (their daughter was Rause Catherine Couch b:1843, married Isaac Rimer, sister to Martha Rimer-Manis).

ii. William P. Delp, b:1803, Grayson,Va. d:March 10, 1862, Copper Ridge, Knox Co., TN.
JD Wilson has him B: 1800 Va/D: Mar.1862, Lee, VA
And another tree on rootsweb site: "William migrated to Illinois" This is the son of the OTHER Daniel Delph M: Anna Millbank.

iii. Celia Delp, b. 1805, d: unk. (twin?)
No one has any further info on Celia or CECELIA, maybe she passed before 1850 census, she is not living with her Mom/Dad, like their other 4 older daughters.

**iv. Jacob Delp, b:1805, Grayson, Va, d: 1905, Lee Co. Va. (twin?) OK, the J.D. Wilson Family tree says, "Jacob married Mary Baker b:abt 1808 VA". Wilson has the 1850 census Hancock, TN. showing Jacob/Mary & kids & also an older son, Harvey married to Mary R.C. Erwin & he has the 1860 census for Harvey/Mary in KY only. He has no info for Jacob after the 1850 census. So looks like J.D.Wilson can not find Jacob after 1850 census.
DATE OF DEATH??? 1905??
I believe that his youngest son George W age 14 is living with Grandfather, Daniel on the 1860 census & that their youngest daughter Henrietta (Sarah), age 1 on the 1850 census lived with one of the families in Indiana between 1851 and 1867. See Jacob's site for details.

The Roscena F would be 21/gone
Elishe M age 8?? AND I was going to say that the daughter Elize age 19 here was the same Elize in 1850 but she is 13 yrs old??? and the last name is FARMER... ???with 2 young daughters? Very confusing but sure looks like the same family, sorta....
Carole Conrad has Elize Anderson marrying Wiley H Stamper
* 1860 census Grayson,Va
Head: Wiley H Stamper age:25 VA
Eliza age:28 VA. dau.: Evaline age: 5 VA-Dennis age:2-
Enoch ANDERSON AGE:11 VA

*Death record for son Wm. Lee Stamper, parents are:Wiley/ Elizabeth Anderson.

vi. Thomas R. Delp, b:1810, Grayson, Va, d: unk.
*Tennessee, County Marriages, 1790-1950
NAME: Thomas Delph
EVENT TYPE: Marriage
EVENT DATE: 20 Aug. 1847
EVENT PLACE: Hawkins, Tennessee
SPOUSES NAME: Malinda Moore
GS film 1572805 image #01807
This is all I can find on either of them, do not know who she was. Thomas would have been 37 at the time of marriage.

vii unknown child b ca 1799 or 1811/1812 Va (May be Sarah below b 1812) OR is this the unknown son and 1st child b: 1799?

viii EXTRA CHILD?:
Son, Daniel Delp born 1806, he was married to Phebe Sage.
WHAT PROOF do we have that he married a Phebe Sage?
What about this...
* Daniel Delp B: 1806 marrying the MARGARET BRATTON in 1831? In Tennessee..we have that record and he would be 25.
The only census record for a D. Delph is:
*1850 census 30th Sep Civil Dist. #4, Dyer Co. Tenn.
HEAD: D. Delph age:45 farmer VA (dob 1805)
G. Delph age:45 N. Carolina & 9 kids, listed by initial.
NOTE: N.C that is where Margaret Couch/Dempsey couch were born???
other than this 1850 census D.Delph/G. Delph there is NO other info. that I can find. Va/Tn./In.
NO f-a-g memorial for him

* A copy of a letter that was sent to Indiana around 1850 from Daniel Delp Sr. who was married to Margaret Couch at the time asking about his oldest son Daniel Delp Jr's health. Daniel Delp Jr b: 1806 died in Indiana, Jasper county, 1851.

II- 1 CHILD of ELIZABETH BOYER and Daniel Delp is:

***i. Sarah aka Sally Delph, b. 1812, d: unk.
She married Jacob Rimer.

a: 9 Children of Sarah "Sally" Delph and Jacob Rimer are:
1. Elizabeth Rimer b:1840, Va, d:1911, Grayson, Va.
see the rest on Sarah/Jacob's site.

(Sarah may be a daughter of Anna Milbank as she was born during Elizabeth's marriage year 1812 BUT note that Sarah named her daughter after Elizabeth Boyer Delp, her mom?)

III- 11 CHILDREN of MARGARET COUCH and Daniel Delp
Married June 1813- 9 months later March 1814...

i. Hannah Delph, b:abt. March 1814,Grayson, VA. d: abt Oct 1870 in Adams Co. Indiana (1870 census ???)
according to J.D Wilson on rootsweb Hannah married a John SMITH and I have found:
*1850/60 census Dist #3 Hawkins, TN
HEAD: John SMITH AGE 35 farmer TN/
Hannah age 35-6 kids: Matilda 12-Sela 10-Eliz. 8- Charly 6- Margaret 4- Mahala 2 and then last but not least:
Elizabeth BRATHEN age 30 TN (wow? wonder who she is? born 1820)
*1860 HEAD: John age 45/Hannah age 46 VA
JOHN age 22 (he was not on 1850)
Matilda-Sela-Eliz.-Charley-Marg.-Mahala-Mary age 9-Abija age 7-Henry 6-Henrietta 1*
So I believe this is the correct family
*1870 censuses in Indiana I can not find Hannah/John however, I did find an Abijah age 16 TN farm laboret= he was living with: HEAD: STOHLER, Michael age:24 PA/ STOHLER, MARY age 18 TN- SMITH, Abijah/ SMITH Sarah age 12 TN. I believe the Mary is the daughter of Hannah/John Smith who married Michael Stohler and they have Mary's 2 siblings living with them because something happened to their Mom/Dad. The names/dates/place of births are right. The Sarah age:12 should have been on the 1860 census as a 1 or 2 year old but the only daughter their is Henrietta age 1. hmmm, Henrietta Sarah? (middle name)

* #1602345 ii. Stephen Delph, b:1814 d: 1863 "49y 2m.4d". The headstone is broken right at the date of death.

FOUND:
*Marriage Record application for Ed Mullins
MOTHER: Eliza DELPH FATHER: Calloway Mullins
actually there are 3 marriage records giving these parents
the dates are good for OUR Eliza B: 1833 to be the mother after the 1860 census when she was still living with her folks in Tennessee. One child: Lula Gibson (divorced) was born Pine Hill KY. just across the border by 261 miles
1870 census there is a Calloway/Eliza with 4 young kids. Gives place of birth for all as "ditto" KY but that has been known to be wrong. So other than this family
Eliza born 1833 TN is no where to be found, even on rootsweb.com TREES

** viii.JANE Delph, b:1834- Hawkins Co.Tn-d:unk.(AKA MARTHA)
*1850 census with Mom/Dad, JANE is age:16

note: this looks great except in 1860 Martha was living with Daniel/Margaret, so unless Martha got married and then divorced within 7 years. Well, anything is possible.

NOTES ON ANN MILBANK AND ELIZABETH BOYER
by Carole Conrad

A Daniel Delp did marry a Anna Milbanks but it was not the same Daniel Delph that married as his second wife Margaret Couch in 1813.

This Anna Milbanks Delph was living with her son, John Milbank Delph, long after our Daniel married Peggy Couch, etc.

They were of Madison County, VA and there were at least 22 other Delph marriages in Madison County, VA--none of them can be connected to the Grayson County, VA Delphs at this time.

Randy Walker's Delp/Delph DNA study would like some of this Madison County, VA line to participate in our DNA study. Also, the Daniel Delph that married Peggy Couch in 1813 did NOT marry Elizabeth Boyer in 1812.

There was a marriage bond for some Daniel Delp and an Elizabeth Boyer March 29, 1812 in Grayson County, VA but the return was not found.

This Daniel Delp (not Delph) could sign his name on the Bond but our subject, Daniel Delph above could only make his mark.

Also in the William H. Boyer Will made out June 29, 1820 and probated in Grayson County, VA 1821 indicated that his daughter, Elizabeth Boyer was still living "I have give to my daughter Elizabeth her portion of my estate and it is my wish that she shall have no more."

If this Elizabeth were living in 1821, she was not married to the same Daniel Delph that married Peggy Couch in 1813.

Also, with the DNA study by Randy Walker, the Elizabeth Delph born ca. 1810-1812 was a full sister to Susannah Delph born ca. 1800 and Sarah Delph born ca. 1806 and all three were daughters of Daniel Delph's first wife whose name is still not proven.

This is all included in my new book DELPH which is available on Lulu.com.

THE CHILDREN not LINKED are
ELIZA DELPH-MULLINS B:1832-33 TN
may have married a Calloway MULLINS between 1861 and 1870
no memorial was made for her

There are 6 duplicate memorials:
Elizabeth-Hannah-Myrium-Mary-Margaret-Andrew

FIRST WIFE:
* VIRGINIA, MARRIAGES, 1785-1940

* Virginia, MARRIAGES, 1785-1940

* Margaret DELPH B: 1796 (N. Car.)

* 1860 P.O.War Gap,Dist #3 Hawkins Tennessee

See Jacob's site for details.

v. Elizabeth Delp, b:1809-10 Grayson,VA, d: June 27,1872, Grayson, Va. Mar.:Swinfield Anderson B: 1809 VA D: 1870 N.C.

Elishe M age 8?? AND I was going to say that the daughter Elize age 19 here was the same Elize in 1850 but she is 13 yrs old??? and the last name is FARMER... ???with 2 young daughters? Very confusing but sure looks like the same family, sorta....
