Rita M. (Boucher) Cowan, 75, of 101 Watchaug Road, who with her husband, Theodore F. Cowan, ran the Little Red Farm House Antique Shop, died Sunday in a local nursing home.
They operated the shop for 15 years. She was an appraiser and authority on early American antiques.
She was also an artist specializing in the copying and restoring of stencils on early American toleware and furniture and taught antiques classes for the adult education program at Enfield High School. She also taught stenciling classes in her home.
Born in Chicopee, she attended Springfield schools, and was graduated from the former Technical High School in 1933. She had lived in Somers for 45 years.
She was a member of Somersville Congregational Church and had been a chairman of the Somers 4-H Club. She was a life member of the Somers Women's Club and a former vice president of the Somers Garden Club.
She was a former member, Sunday school teacher and deaconess of Somers Congregational Church. She was also a past president of the church's Women's Fellowship and a chairman of its Mr. and Mrs. Club.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Theodore F. and James K., both of Somers; two sisters Hilda Vincensi and Ruth Cote of Holyoke; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday afternoon at Somersville Congregational Church with burial in North Cemetery. Somers Funeral Home is in charge.
