Suggested edit: Carlsbad Current-Argus (NM) - October 12, 2007 CARLSBAD - Nettie Mae Mitchell, 78, of Valverde Street, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Southwest Regional Medical Center. Visitation was 1-8 p.m. Friday and will be 9 a.m. to noon today. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Blodgett Street Baptist Church with Pastor David Prell and Dave Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Nettie Mae Mitchell was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Lamesa, Texas, to Albert J. and Ola Mae (Jeter) Taylor. She grew up in Lamesa. Nettie married Pat Mitchell Jan. 19, 1947, in Lamesa and they moved to Carlsbad in 1948. She was a volunteer at Lakeview Christian Home for over 39 years. Nettie also volunteered at the Memorial Hospital in the early years and was instrumental in starting the hospital auxiliary, which was then known as the "Pink Ladies." She was a very active member of Blodgett Street Baptist Church. Nettie was preceded in death by her father, infant daughter, Annette Mitchell and son, Randy Keith Mitchell. Survivors include spouse, Pat Mitchell, of the family home; daughter Reba Faye Mitchell of Carlsbad; mother Ola Mae Taylor of Carlsbad; three sisters: Billie McNew and husband, Joe, of Carlsbad, Louise Huckabee of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Wanda Jackson and husband, Bill, of Terrell, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; close friends, Kent Carter of Carlsbad, Virginia Hieter of Carlsbad, and many, many other close friends Pallbearers will be Kent Carter, Mike Carter, Marcus Miles, Ramon Loya, Terry MacArthur and Fred Padilla. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon International, P.O. Box 391, Carlsbad, NM 88221 or New Mexico Baptist Childrens Home, P.O. Box 629, Portales, NM 88130.
