Anna was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 15, 1846. She was the daughter of Rep. James Humphrey and his wife Urania Battell Humphrey.

On her passport application of May 22, 1875 Anna was described as follows: 5' 1 3/4" tall, brown hair, grey eyes, fair complexion, high forehead, large mouth, square chin, regular nose and long face.

Anna married Clarence Deming, son of William Deming and his wife Charlotte Tryon Bull. They married in Brooklyn, NY, on November 10, 1879. They had no children and Anna died December 3, 1880. Her husband remarried 6 years later.

Anna was buried with her parents, siblings and infant daughter in the family plot in Green-Wood Cemetery.
