A.B. (Honeyboy) Madewell of Commerce passed away July 23, 2013, at Baylor Medical Center, Dallas.

A.B. was born on Oct. 31, 1932, to Sarah Idell (Massey) and Granvell Washington Madewell in Argyle. He married Nancy Marie Jones Feb. 3, 1951, in Denton.

A.B. attended Denton High School and then was employed at General Motors and Texas Instruments Defense, Inc. In 1960 he moved his family to Commerce where he and his wife owned and operated a dairy farm/cattle ranch. In his accomplishments, he was a building contractor, owner/landlord of rental property, and had many other skills and talents, later retiring in 2009. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family with many extended friends. His passion was his horses, competing in arena activities, team roping, and family cattle roundups. He and Nancy were members of Cross Trails Cowboy Church where he enjoyed social and spiritual fellowship.

He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Paige O'Neal.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; five children, Deborah Wheat, Bobby Madewell and wife Karen, Vickie O'Neal and husband Danny, Diane Stegall and husband Glenn, and Quint Madewell and wife Rebecca; 12 grandchildren, Michelle Marker, Lance Wheat, Misty McNeely, Josh Madewell, Heather Murray, Duke O'Neal, Rowdy O'Neal, Jennifer Allen, Colby Stegall, Whitney Rice, and Blake Madewell; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Cross Trails Cowboy Church in Fairlie Saturday with visitation at noon, followed by his funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will be at 4:15 p.m. at Old Alton Cemetery in Denton.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Lance Wheat, Duke O'Neal, Rowdy O'Neal, Josh Madewell, Colby Stegall, and Blake Madewell.
