Emma married John Kelsay, and they had four children, William, Alvin, Solomon, and Linian. They came to California with their oldest son William and his family, and soon after, William died, leaving Emma and John to raise his oldest son.
In 1899, when Emma died, John knew that she had wanted to be buried as near to their William as she could, so in order to honor her wishes the best he could, he bought a small piece of land about 18 feet square on a private ranch not too far from the old cemetery there. John was buried next to Emma when he died in 1908. The roads were built at a later time so that now their graves are at the intersection of the two roads (Renfro Crossing and Merritt Road), in Kelseyville, California. John's stone is no longer there. John's father and mother were both born in Tennessee.
