Emerson D. Sawaya, 80, died February 2, 2012 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born June 6, 1931 at Salina, Kansas, the son of George Risk and Olive (Johnson) Sawaya. He married Erma Jean Gordon June 20, 1957 at Salina. She died April 5, 2006. A Great Bend resident since 1960, coming from Salina, Mr. Sawaya was a serviceman for KP&L. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Sawaya was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and was a life member of American Legion.

Survivors include one son, John Risk Sawaya, Great Bend; one daughter, Diane Lynn Summers, Oxnard, California; two brothers: George Murdock, Hollywood, California; and Norman Craig Sawaya, Hutchinson, Kansas; two sisters: Anne Scuitte, Salina; and Norene Schnell, Sacramento, California. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack David Sawaya and Buddy Sawaya.

Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2012 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Father Don Bedore will be celebrant. Cremation will take place following the service with inurnment at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Great Bend Cemetery North. Friends may call from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to Prince of Peace Parish, in care of the funeral home.
