Born in 1881 to James A and Ellen J Rice. Married Anna Beatrice Flood on 8 Aug 1917 in Maynard, MA. They lived in Boston and Dorchester until about 1926 when they moved to Highland Ave in Quincy, MA. They moved to Turner St in the Houghs Neck section of Quincy about 1930 and stayed there until their death. They had 6 children - Edward L Jr, Mary E, Robert R, Richard J, Philip F and Kenneth G. Philip F was murdered in Quincy, MA in 1979. His killer was given a life sentence at Walpole State Prison.
