Eleanor B. Wong, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2005, at Evergreen Clancy Rehabilitation Center.

Eleanor was born in Fargo, N.D., on April 23, 1913, to Edward H. and Anna Trow Beckett. She grew up in Duluth, Minn., with sisters Lucille, Lillian, Dorothy and Viola, and brothers James, Edward, George and Robert.

In 1933, Eleanor moved to Helena. She met and married Jerry Young Wong in Vancouver, Wash., in 1935.

Together with her husband, Jerry, they opened their restaurant, House of Wong, at 3 South Main in 1947. The business was relocated to 2711 N. Montana Ave. in 1974. They ran this very successful business for 47 years until the death of Jerry in 1994.

Eleanor was named Woman of the Year by the Helena Business and Professional Women's Club in 1977. She was a member of the Alter Society of St. Helena Cathedral and frequently visited Cooney Convalescent Home and Western Care Nursing Home. She enjoyed playing bridge and played in competitions in Canada and Washington state. Eleanor and Jerry had a cabin in Rimini called "Jerry's Retreat." They enjoyed relaxing there with their large extended family.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anna Beckett; her brothers, Edward, George, James and Robert; her sisters, Lucille, Lillian and Dorothy; her husband, Jerry Wong; her son, Donald J. Wong; her daughter, Rose Marie Macaraeg; sons-in-law John Hillman and Catalino Macaraeg; grandson, Ronald Hillman and granddaughter Angelina Hillman.

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Frank Liepzig (Viola) of Shingle Springs, Calif.; her daughter, Elizabeth Jean Hillman of Sweet Home, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth Ellen and Tino Guy of Helena; her goddaughter, Lee Guidoni of Whitehall; grandchildren, Diana Langenfus, Robert Macaraeg, Jerry Macaraeg, Kathleen Rachael, Colleen Hillman-Housel, John R. Hillman, Karen Alexander, Lisa Delos Santos, Michael Wong, Angela Wong, Robb Wong, D.J. Wong, James Wong and Melissa Wong; 17 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; niece, Linda Warner; nephew, Harry McGee; and grandnieces Christy King and Felicia McGee.

Visitation hours will begin 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, at Retz Funeral Home. A Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at the Cathedral of St. Helena. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A reception will then follow in the Brondel Center of the Cathedral.
