Ray was a Korean War Veteran and served with the U.S. Army. Before retiring he was a general foreman with International Fuel Cells, Division of United Technologies, South Windsor for many years. He was a longtime parishioner of St Margaret Mary Church, South Windsor. He enjoyed UCONN women's basketball games with his wife, home cooked meals, a long walk with his dog and many precious times with his grandchildren and family. With Ray's sparkling, blue eyes and quiet spirit he won many friends at the Village at Buckland Court. These new friends gave him such tender loving care while he bravely fought ALS.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Patricia, he leaves his children, Lynn Marinelli and her husband, John, Margaret Peruccio and her husband Edward and Virginia Hughes and her husband Frederick all of South Windsor; his daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Schopp of Kentucky, brother, Thomas P. Schopp in Oregon; a sister, Rosemarie Healy of Pittsburg, PA; six adoring grandchildren, Alison and Jenna Marinelli, Marissa and Daniel Peruccio and Alexander and Katherine Hughes and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Raymond T. Schopp, Jr.
Family and friends may gather, Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Mary Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor.
