OBITUARY

Harry Lewis Geer

Harry Lewis Geer, the son of Lewis and Mary Geer was born in Wheaton, Ill., September 8, 1862 in a log cabin. While a small child his parents moved to Chicago. There a sister, Rosie died, and there a sister, Florence and a brother, Albert were born. In 1870 the family moved to Kansas City, Mo., and from there to Larned, Kans., in 1877. Later moving to a homestead and timber claim near Macksville. In 1882 the family left the farm and moved to Kinsley.
On the 18th day of October 1887 he was married to Myra Bailey of Kinsley. Four children were born to this union, Pearl L., Florence E., Anna E. and Carl H.
Mr. Geer's sister, Florence passed away in 1891. His wife, Myra passed away on October 8, 1907. After his wife's death, Mr. Geer and his children lived with his father and mother until February 3, 1909, when he was married to Mrs. Amelia Erickson, who was making her home with her brother, F. N. Cole and wife. In 1910 Mr. Geer went into the grocery business and established Geer's Grocery which he later disposed of. After this he worked in different places until his health began to fail. He has been confined to his home for most of the past year, gradually growing weaker until the end, which came Monday, March 23. He was a patient sufferer, ever brave and uncomplaining. He was a faithful member of the Kinsley Methodist church for more than 50 years and was the clerk of the Modern Woodmen for many years and held this office until the time of his death.
He is survived by his widow, Amelia Geer, his four children, Mrs. Pearl Hancock of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Florence Mole of Reno, Nevada, Mrs. Anna Work of Kingman, Kans., and Carl H. Geer of Hutchinson; his brother, A. E. Geer of Lamont, Okla., eleven grandchildren and two nephews, Fred and George Geer of Oklahoma. His only great grandchild preceded him in death by two months. Many other relatives and friends mourn his passing.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church with Rev. G. L. Coppedge in charge. Pall bearers were Mssrs C. J. DeWitt, August Berger, Paul Stukenbroker, Maynard Marshall, George Ott and David Krenzin.
Mesdames G. L. Coppedge and Earl Gere, and Mssrs D. A. Baucher and Harley Thompson with Mrs. Harlow Anderson at the piano furnished the music.
