Irene, age 15, was a sophomore at Fairborn High School.
She was the eighth of nine children born to Amos and Zellia (Mercer) Gayheart.
Her siblings were, Ishmael Gayheart, Mary Magdalene (Gayheart) Combs, Anna Mae (Gayheart) Smith, Corinne (Gayheart) Collins, Hershuel Gayheart, Herma (Gayheart) Bargo, Carl Gayheart, and Marla (Gayheart) Henry.

RITES SLATED TOMORROW FOR 4 TEENAGERS
Funeral services will be held Thursday for four teenagers who were killed. Monday night when a 42-car freight train smashed into the auto in which they were riding.
Services for the young victims will be held at 2.p.m. Thursday at the Wright View Church of the Nazarene, where all were members. The Rev, Roy J. Nash, pastor of the small church will officiate. Burial will be in Byron cemetery,
According to officers, the teenagers were passengers in a car driven by Aaron Stevens, 16, of 100 Powell Ave., Fairborn. They were on their way to their Sunday school teacher's home for a special prayer meeting when the tragedy occurred.
The auto was struck as it crossed the Erie-New York Central railroad tracks at Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., near State Route 444.
Killed, in addition to the Stevens boy, who lived with his mother, Mrs. Donald Burnette, in Fairborn, were Jo Ann Calahan, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Calahan of 55 Truman Ave. Fairborn: Irene Gayheart, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Gayheart of 125 E. Gilbert St., Fairborn, and Sandra York, 16. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin York of 24 Brady St., Dayton.
Friends may call today at the Wright View church, Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., from 4 to 9 p.m. Mr. Nash will officiate.
