Obituary: A Short History of the Life of J. F. Wing
John Frederick Wing was born June 2, 1822, in Champlain, Clinton Co., New York, and departed this life from his home in Crete, nebr., on Monday evening, March 21st, 1904.
When but a small boy Mr. Wing moved with his parents to Streetsboro, Ohio, where he resided for 27 yeas. On May 3d, 1849, he was united in marriage to Miss Augusta Root. As a result of this union six children were born. Four of these, one son and three daughters, are still living to be a comfort and stay to Mrs. Wing in these latter years of her earthly pilgrimage.
In 1858 Mr. Wing and family moved to the state of Wisconsin. After a residence of fifteen years in that state they came to Nebraska and located in Crete. They are counted among the oldest residents of our city, having lived here more than twenty years. Mr. Wing figured prominently in the making of our town in those early days of her history, and more than one building still remains as a monument of his labors.
