Died Away from Home

The death of Mr. Patrick Furlong, father of Mrs. Thomas Gentleman, of North Sixteenth street, was a sad occurrence. It happened while both the deceased and his widow were here on a visit from Springfield, Ills., to their daughter, and was unexpected because, when both left home, Mr. Furlong was in the enjoyment of good health for a man seventy-three years of age. Both of his sons were telegraphed of the sad occurrence and arrived here last night. The funeral took place today from the church of the Holy Family, and the remains were interred in the Holy cemetery sepulcher [sic].

Resolution of Condolence.

At a meeting of the Irish National League, of Springfield, Ill., the following resolutions of respect to the memory of the late Patrick Furlong, were unanimously adopted:

WHEREAS, We, the members of the Irish National League, of Springfield, Ill., have learned with sincere regret of the death of our most esteemed brother, the late Patrick Furlong; and

WHEREAS, We have known him to be through all the busy years of a long life, a man who has rendered yeoman service in the cause of his native land, and one who was always ready to make great personal sacrifice in her behalf; therefore

Resolved, That we take this method of rendering tribute to his many noble qualities of head and heart, and that we hold him up as a shining example of pure, fervent and patriotic zeal.

Resolved. That in his death we have suffered a loss which we each feel to be a personal loss, and that the cause of Ireland has lost a most consistent and a most worthy advocate.

Resolved, That we tender our sincere sympathy to his aged wife and sorrowing family in their sad bereavement.

Resolved, That these resolutions be published in the city papers, in the Chicago Citizen and the Irish World.
