Mrs. Mary Gravely Martin widow of the late Patrick H[enry] Martin, died Sunday afternoon at the home of her son, J[oseph] J. Martn near Danville, in the 87th year of her age. The funeral will take place this morning at Fairview Church. Mrs. Martin, who was Mary Jane Gravely, a daughter of Lewis Gravely, was born near Leatherwood in this county and, in 1854, was married to Patrick H[enry] Gravely, a prominent citizen of Pittsylvania County, who died on December 7, 1900, and it was just on the anniversary of his death 24 years after that date that Mrs. Martin passed away. Of this union there were 14 children, only six of whom survive: J[oseph] J[ackson] W. L., Frank G., C[alvin] L[uther] Traynham Martin, and Mrs. [Ella] W. T. Willis, all of Pittsylvania County. Mrs. Martin was a sister of the late George D[yer] Gravely of Martinsville, and was the last surviving member of that generation of her family. Among her surviving nieces and nephews are Miss Mollie Gravely and Messrs. George L., W. H., and A. S. Gravely, and Mrs. J. Moss Smith of Martinsville.
