Hans Tvedte of Dolliver Dies at Home

Hans [Augustine] Tvedte, former postmaster of Dolliver, died at 3:20 a.m. today at his home in Dolliver. He had been in Holy Family hospital with a heart ailment but was released Sunday. He was 68.

Mr. Tvedte had been in ill health since 1947 which prompted him to retire from his postoffice duties in 1948.

He was born Sept. 2, 1883, in Haugesund, Norway, and was educated there. He came to the United States in 1904 at the age of 20 and settled on a farm in Chinook, Mont.

On Sept. 19, 1917, he married in Chinook and lived on a farm there until 1919, moving then to Dolliver.

Mr. Tvedte was a member of the school board for about 10 years in Dolliver and was postmaster in 1920 and from 1923 to 1948. He was also a member of the Lutheran church.

He is survived by his wife [Lottie], four sons, Robert H. in Phoenix, Ariz., Norman L. of Burbank, Calif., Donald James of Dolliver and Hans A. of Estherville; two grandsons, Craig Allan of Phoenix and Steven Timothy of Estherville; three brothers, Olaf Twedt of Estherville, Egil Twedt of Minneapolis and Torlaf Tvedte of Norway; four sisters, Olga, Hedvig and Alma Tvedt and Mrs. Erna Fagerland, all of Norway.

Funeral services are set tentatively for Tuesday. Friends may call at the Sandin funeral home from Sunday afternoon until the time of the funeral. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 18, 1951)
