He was 20 years old when he enlisted at Martin's Depot, Laurens District, South Carolina 8/6/1861.
Mustered into Captain R.L Bowden's Company, Edwards' Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers as a Private. (This company subsequently became Company A, 13th South Carolina Infantry.)
Killed In Action in the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA.
His father, William Boyd, filed a settlement claim through attorney W.D. Simpson amd was found due $55.29.

The 13th South Carolina Infantry Regiment was organized in July, 1861, at Lightwoodknot Springs, near Columbia, South Carolina. Many of the men were recruited in Greenville, Newberry, Abbeville, and Spartanburg counties. The unit sustained 91 casualties at Chancellorsville.
