Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 5, from Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. L. D. Blevins and Samuel McMahan officiating. Burial followed in the Trinity Cemetery with Rainsville Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include wife, Della Bates of Sylvania; two sons, J. W. Bates of Lafayette, GA and Bill J. Bates of Chattanooga, TN; one daughter, Merlene Harris of Henagar; two brothers, Pete Bates of Fort Payne and Bethel Bates of Chattanooga, TN; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
