Elizabeth Alsop, 97, died Friday, March 22, 2002, in the Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN.

Elizabeth Alsop was born on August 6, 1904, to Harry T. Alsop and Lillian Fuller Alsop in the apartment above Interior Lumber & Fuel Company in Fargo. She was the granddaughter of a pioneer family that had operated steamboats up and down the Red River. She grew up in Fargo, attended Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, and graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1927. After graduation she went to work in the family business, Interior Lumber & Fuel Company, Fargo, and served as Secretary Treasurer with the company for many years. Elizabeth began retiring at the age of 90.

Miss Alsop was a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of the American Revolution, and was named YWCA Centennial Woman of the Year in 1975. Her organizational activities included Business and Professional Women, Delta Gamma Sorority, PEO, The Handicaps Club. She served on the Executive Board of the Florence Crittenton Home and was a charter member of Zonta. She was active in many charitable groups and organizations and was a member of Gethsemane Cathedral, Fargo for 97 years.

She is survived by her brother, John F. Alsop, Fargo; nephews and nieces, Richard (Reneé) Alsop; and sons James and Andrew Mary Alsop Adair and sons John (Lana) and Charles (Marissa), Donald (Dorothy) Wheeler and children Jean, David (Alexandra), Micheal, and John Elizabeth Wheeler Evangelista and children, James (Juli), Mary Evangelista, Nancy (Joe Dosch) Evangelista, Patricia (Paul) Miller, Mark (Tina) Evangelista, Peter (Laura) Evangelista, and Ann Evangelista; 15 great-grand nieces and nephews; special friend Amanda Renchin.

She was preceded by her parents and sister, Margaret Wheeler.

The funeral will be in Gethsemane Cathedral at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday. There will be a visitation in the church one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
