Abraham Nilsson Hallberg was born at Högby, Öland, Kalmar län, Sweden. (Öland is an island just off the SE coast of Sweden).

He moved to the Swedish island of Gotland and married on 5 Feb 1836 to Lisa Maja Hansdotter (called Elizabeth or Elisabet Hallberg in Minnesota). She was from Sanda parish on Gotland island, Sweden.

Gotland records show they had 8 children, but only 6 lived to adulthood.

Abraham Hallberg and his family joined the Baptist church in Sweden, which at that time was frowned upon, since Sweden had Lutheranism as their state religion.

By 1870, Abraham and wife "Elisabet" Hallberg were living in Otter Tail County, Minnesota with their son Oscar Hallberg, who owned the farm. The nearest post office was Pomme de Terre. By 1883, Abraham had owned his own farm, but sold it and Abraham and Elisabet returned to Västergarn, Gotland, Sweden June 1883 to live with a daughter Anna Sophia Hallberg Stenberg, since they were in their 70's. However, Abraham and his wife left Sweden again in Apr. 1885, back to Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Abraham died 10 July 1890 after several months illness, which was noted in the local Swedish language newspaper, resulting in amputation of his leg.

Lisa Maja (Elisabet or Elizabeth) Hallberg died in Minneapolis 20 Jan. 1905.
