The family of Sophie Znak is sad to announce our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother left us for heaven at the age of 101 years. Passing away on May 17, 2023 at the Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin, Manitoba.
Sophie was born on September 19, 1921 in Smidyn, Poland to parents, Michael and Fedfonia Polak. She, along with her parents and sisters, Annie and Helen immigrated to Canada in May of 1930 and settled in the Postup area.
On October 13, 1941 at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Postup, Sophie married Dmytro Znak. They became a happy family with three children, Suzanne, Chris, and Vince. Together they dedicated many hours to farming in the Shortdale district and retired to Roblin in 1974.
Sophie loved her garden, flowers and raspberries and would tend to them into her late 90s. She filled many jars with canned jam, pickles, and fruit. We all enjoyed her cooking and baking. She was so happy to have visitors and never let anyone leave without a cup of coffee and some dainties. Sophie took part in helping at the Ukrainian Catholic Church, and worked at the Saint Vladimir's College.
Mom (Baba), please don't worry about us anymore. We will be fine, after all you raised us. You taught us clean bodies, clothes, house, and minds. You showed us to follow our passion and fearlessness as you worked hard. You have made us independent and have moral convictions. You showed us that marriage means weathering the storms and celebrating sunny weather. You were always kind, gentle and happy to give and share with us and everyone in your life. We thank you for all you taught us and most of all for the love you gave us. We will hold in our hearts and all of our lives, until we are with you again.
