Laverne S. Brister, "Memi"
HAUGHTON, LA - Laverne S.
Brister, "Memi", departed this earth to
be with the Lord on June 10, 2006.
A memorial gathering will be held at
Boone Funeral Home on Monday eve-
ning, June 12, 2006 from 6:00 - 8:00
PM. The Memorial service will be
held on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at
1:00 PM in the Boone Chapel. Bro.
Jerry Ables of First Baptist Church in
Bossier City will officiate with Mildred
Walker assisting.
Memi was a caregiver most of her
life and even in death was caring for
others by donating her remains to
LSU Medical Center for research.
She was greeted in heaven by her
daughter, Sheryl Lynn Brister. She
was also preceded in death by her pa-
rents, Felix and Christine Scroggins of
Flora, LA and her sister and brother-
in-law Roma and Raymond Johnson
of Conroe, TX.
Memi is survived by her daughter
and her husband, Kayla and Mike
Hopper of Haughton, three grandchil-
dren, Kari White and Jay of Ruston,
Matthew Stevens and Alissa of Mon-
roe, and Tadd Jacob Stevens of
Ruston. Also two acquired grand-
daughters, Jessica Spence of Nash-
ville, TN and Michelle Hopper of RAF
Alconbury, Great Britian. There were
four special stars in her life, her great-
grandchildren, Austin Wheeler and
Alexander White of Ruston, and Madi-
gan and Mallory Stevens of Monroe.
She leaves a niece Diane Dorris and
husband Steve of Woodlands, TX,
and nephew Dr. Ray Johnson, Jr. and
Kim of Conroe, TX. There are a host
of family and friends that will greatly
miss her.
Memi was a member of First Baptist
Church of Bossier, the Mary-Martha
Bible Class, and Diamond Set. She
was retired from SWEPCO.
