Funeral services for Ralph Gilbert Smith; 84, who died Sunday morning after an extended illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. R. Byrd, on Alum Spring road, were held yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock from Thomas M. Seagle and Sons funeral home, with the Rev. Virgil Anderson officiating, assisted by the Rev. H. B. Abshire. Burial followed in the Thornspring cemetery.

Born in Pulaski county in 1866 and one of the county's oldest residents, he is survived by four sons, Carl D. Smith, Raymond P. Smith and Audrey Smith, all of Pulaski, and H. W. Smith, of Mullins, W. Va.; six daughters, Mrs. Clyde R. Ryan, Mrs. M. A. Mabry, Mrs. L. R. Byrd, Mrs. J. F. Morris and Mrs. Cora. Long, all of Pulaski, and Mrs. Daisy Holt, of Radford. One brother, R. T. Smith, of Dublin, and one sister, Mrs. Crockett Nance, of Dublin, also survive.

Grandsons served as active pallbearers.
