Francis Marion Waldrep was the son of Elihu Nelson Waldrep and Tamsey Duke. He was born in Sumter Co GA in 1832. He was married first to the former Ruth Edy Bryan/Bryant in Sumter Ga on December 23,1851. F.M. and Ruth were living in Worth Co GA in 1870 post office Isabella but had migrated to Columbia Co FL before June of 1880 as they are listed on the census there at that time. F.M.'s occupation is listed as working on the RR.They were the parents of a number of children; Augustus J, Mary M,Robert Shannon,Marian May Ada,Mysetta Munretta,Ruth and John T.All of the children were born in GA. It is my belief that first wife Ruth is also buried here in an unmarked or previously marked but long lost or broken stone. Ruth preceded F. M. in death and he subsequently married again. His second marriage was to Allen E Chesser/Cheshire. A marriage record exists at the Lake City Courthouse. No license is found for a third marriage, however, a land deed shows F. M. and wife "Ida S.". Ida is also shown as wife on the 1900 census record. There is also a City Directory record of Ida S. Waldrep, widow of F. M.living in Jacksonville after 1900. Thanks to the untiring effort of John Stanford of the Lake City Museum,we now know the location of his burial for certain.
Since there is no cemetery record of his burial here, there is no way to know exactly where his and Ruth's plots might be but likely close to the graves of his daughter Marian May Ada Warren and her husband. Also the burial plot of his sister Malinda Waldrep Richards is nearby.
