Abbie Matilda Raymore was born at Eden, Vermont, April 22nd, 1839. She was married January 8th, 1858 to William Albert Phillips, who served his country three years and eleven months in Co. D, 4th Regiment Vermont Volunteers, and returned to private life in broken health. He with his family moved to Missouri in September 1865 and settled near Eldon where Mr. Phillips died Aug. 24, 1873.
She married again Nov. 11, 1875 to R. O. Joslyn, formerly of Vermont. In 1891, Mr. and Mrs. Joslyn moved to Loveland, Colorado for Mr. Joslyn's health and after a lingering illness he passed away Feb. 24, 1918.
After the death of her husband she frequently returned to Missouri to visit her sons, Henry and W. A. Phillips, and her only daughter, Mrs. J.W. Son. She preferred to remain at her home in Loveland where her youngest son, Dr. Archie Joslyn held a prominent practice.
Last October 8th she came to Eldon for a visit, but soon took to her bed and was confined to her room most of the four months before her death Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Son.
Mrs. Joslyn was one of the early Christian workers at old Salem Church and at the old Congregational Church, one of the first organized in Eldon. Her influence has had its full measure of good for the Christian service she gave when it was most needed in the community. The family and near relatives could give testimony of her good life.
A short funeral service was held at the Son home Wednesday after which the body was taken to Loveland, Colorado.
