The son of Daniel & Mehitabel (Brown) Trowbridge, his profession was that of a mason (brick-layer). On July 9, 1767, he married Dorcas Hitchcock. They lived at the SE corner of Water & Columbus Streets. He amassed a large estate.

He married (1) Dorcas Hitchcock on 9 JUL 1767 in New Haven and (2) Thankful Alling on January 1, 1793 in New Haven.
