Andrew's parents were Philip & Patience Katherman. He served in Co. I, 192nd Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War. He was in the furniture and undertaking business in Mifflinburg until his retirement in 1902.
He was a member of the M. E. chuch and had served as a trustee and its treasurer for many years. He was also an active member of the IOOF.
