From: Handbook of Waco and McLennan County Texas
Daniel Aerl, son of Isaac and Rebecca (Colyer) Aerl, was born in Adams County Ohio. He was educated in Ohio and farmed there from 1830 to 1851. During the latter year he moved to Iowa and in 1854 moved to McLennan County, Texas, where he engaged in farming and stock raising. He reportedly owned more than 800 acres of land in Texas, including 357 acres purchased from Jacob de Cordova on March 15, 1856, at one dollar an acre. Learning about the Missouri, Kansas & Texas railway interest in extending a line south of Waco he donated land to the right-of-way in April, 1881. C.M. Dodge, an M.K.T. agent, partitioned the remaining 40 acres and sold lots at an auction for the town of Aerl Station, which was renamed Lorena. In March, 1883 Aerl gave additional land for the first school in that section. The schools of the Lorena district and a playground are still located there. He also provided land for 2 churches. IN 1884 he sold the rest of his land to his son, Ira Aerl.
Aerl was married twice. In 1830 he married Mary Dixon (or Mary T. Dickson) of Logan County, OH, and they had 8 children. After her death in 1853, he married Sarah Mariah House in Iowa, and they were the parents of 8 children. He died on January 14, 1886.
