Peleg Grinald Thurston was the son of Joseph and Sarah (Taylor) Thurston of Hopkinton, Rhode Island. He was born in Westerly, R.I. on April 1, 1788. His first marriage was on June 13, 1810 to Roby Andrews [daughter of Capt.Jonathan and Susanna Andrews of revolutionary memory]; she died Jan.[probably, June] 23, 1815. His second marriage was on Sept. 18, 1817 to Ann York, who was born Aug. 16, 1790, daughter of William York of Westerly.

Mr. Thurston was an overseer of weaving, justice of the peace, and member of the Baptist church in Johnston, R.I. He died July 12, 1862; she died in North Providence, R.I. on April 28, 1873. Children (from both wives):

(1) Joseph - born Jan. 4, 1812 in Warwick, R.I.; married Penelope Northup; caught his foot in gearing and died from the effect on July 31, 1838; no children.
(2) Charles Andrews - born Dec. 29, 1813 in E. Greenwich, R.I.; died April 16, 1814.
(3) Julia Ann - born June 7, 1815; died Oct. 20, 1817.
(4) Charles - born Dec. 7, 1819; died Jan. 20, 1820.
(5) Augustus York - born April 20, 1821; married first to Julia Maria Angell and second to Lydia Bacon Potter. He was a machinist in Providence.
(6) Sarah Ann - born Sept. 29, 1822; married first to William Angell Sweet, and second to Philip Angell Sweet.
(7) Stephen York - born Jan. 7, 1824 in Stonington, Conn.; married to Mary Lapham Coe. He was a machinist and member of the Baptist church in Providence; in 1888 moved to Pawtucket, R.I.
(8) William - born June 14, 1826 in Canterbury, Conn.; died April 25, 1827.
(9) Hannah Maria - born Oct. 9, 1827; married June 29, 1854 to John Butler Lawton, a ship carpenter of North Providence.
(10) John Taylor - born Oct. 17, 1829 in Griswold, Conn.; married to Phebe Ann Mathewson.
(11) William C. - born March 7, 1834 at Central Falls, R.I.; married to Adeliza Jillson; resided in Providence. He died Jan. 2, 1865.
