Nathan Beers, Jr. was the son of Nathan & Hannah (Nichols) Beers and granson of my ancestors, JOSIAH & ELIZABETH (UFFOOT) BEERS. He married Mary Phelps on May 26, 1781 at the North Church. Nathan was a Deacon of the North Church from 1804 until his death.
He signed a memorial to form a military company on March 2, 1775 and served in the Revolutionary War in the 2nd Co., Gov. Foot's Guard. They were granted a charter the same day.
On July 5, 1779, the Second Co. fought against British forces. One of the colonists blew up the West River bridge keeping them from advancing and giving the surrounding towns time to come to the aid of New Haven.
