Duane W. Brooks (age 77)
Entered into rest October 3, 2007. Duane was born July 5, 1930 in Kenmare, ND. He is survived by his wife Helen; daughter Camille (Rick) Jennen of Spokane; brother Jerry Brooks of Kent, WA; sisters LaDonna Froseth of Kenmare, ND and Jeanie Brooks Zak of Pahrump, NV, plus numerous nieces and nephews. His parents Leslie and Kathleen Brooks precede him in death. Duane was reared on the farm at Kenmare, ND, where he completed high school and graduated from Minot State College in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He taught junior high at Makoti and Washburn, ND and after moving to Spokane in 1961 taught high school at Hunters and Riverside. Retiring from teaching, he was an independent insurance agent, a real estate agent, a Stationery Engineer at Lakeland and drove a school bus for Medical Lake School District. Duane was a Fraternal Communicator for Lutheran Brotherhood, now Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. He served with the Army Corps of Engineers in upstate New York and at Osan Air Force Base in South Korea under SCARWAF, honorably discharged in 1956. He served in all officer capacities of Erroll English Post No. 196, American Legion, Medical Lake; served as District Vice Commander 1995-96 and District Commander 1996-99 of the Eighth District of the American Legion, Department of Washington; served on Medical Laek City Council from 1988-1991; and was a member of Medical Lake Masonic Lodge No. 102 and St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he was active for many years. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 11:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 223 S. Hallet Street, Medical Lake.
