A lifelong miner, Mr. Bachich was a mining supervisor and leased mines throughout the West. He was mine supervisor at Cinnabar, Idaho, from 1946-1948 and then went to Stibnite, Idaho, where he was the mill superintendent for Bradley Mining Co. through 1950. He retired in 1962 in Yellow Pine, Idaho while continuing to offer his services as mining consultant for several years.
At age 94, he wrote a book about his early years in the Mother Lode country of the Sierra Nevada. Mr. Bachich was a 72-year member of the Masonic Lodge attaining status as a 32nd degree Mason and becoming a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a past worthy patron of the Order of Eastern Star.
He enjoyed all outdoor activities and was an expert fly fisherman and hunter. He was also an avid gardener. "He was an inspiration to his family and friends with his remarkable memory, wisdom and sense of humor," said his daughter, Beverly Wilson of Salem, Ore.
In addition to Beverly, he is survived by his wife, Millie of Albany; grandchildren, Kristin Williams of Gold Beach, Ore., and Erik Nyeland of Salem; great-grandchildren Garrett and Raef Williams. Two brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Pioneer Cemetery in Yellow Pine, Idaho.
