Gladys Ellen (Doub) Sell, 102, of Independence Village passed away peacefully following a brief illness, surrounded by her family and in the comfort of her home, Saturday, May 10, 2003. Born Oct. 1, 1900 in Forsyth County, she was the daughter of Boyd Vachel and Mary Elizabeth (Leinback) Doub. Mrs. Sell was retired from the accounting department of the Winston-Salem Journal-Sentinel newspaper and also from the Forsyth County school system as a schoolteacher. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James "Jim" and Betsy Sell of Raleigh; her two grandchildren, Karen Sell of Raleigh and Michael Sell and his wife Jillian and great-granddaughter, Ainsley Makana Sell, all three of Wahiawa, Hawaii; and her sisters-in-law, Gladys Doub and Barbara Garrison, both of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Sell was preceded in death by her husband, Maddrey Brawley Sell, in 1979; her brothers, Herbert, Oscar, Charlie, Dennis, Carl and Elmer Doub; and her sisters, Lillian Thacker and Margaret Boger. Committal services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. A celebration of resurrection will follow at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. The family will receive friends following the church service in the Baucom Parlor.
