"John William Evans disappeared from the Galt area and was never heard from again. Leona Nichols remembered the story as going something like the following. "Some people came through the area and needed a way up to Iowa due to their horses going lame, etc. John therefore offered this person or persons a ride and was never heard from again. The family thought he had been killed and his mode of transportation stolen."
