TOBACCOVILLE Mr. Alvis Thomas Ijames Jan. 3, 1933 - Jul. 9, 3013 Mr. Alvis Thomas Ijames of Tobaccoville, NC passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. He was born on January 3, 1933 in the suburbs of Mocksville, NC to the late Roosevelt and Ira Ijames. Mr. Ijames was a 1953 graduate of Davie High Training School. He was baptized as a child at Mainville AME Zion Church in Mocksville. He transferred his membership to Center Grove AME Zion Church in Tobaccoville where he served as Steward and enjoyed fellowship in the weekly Bible Studies. Following military service for his country during the Korean Conflict, Mr. Ijames was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He retired as a mechanic for the Anchor Motor Freight Division in Winston-Salem, NC. His most recent employment with McClean Parking gave him the opportunity to continue his joy of communicating with other people. Along with his parents, Mr. Ijames is preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Speas Ijames; a sister, Ruth Faye Sales; and a brother, Claude Calvin Ijames. He is survived by his children, Vanessa Barker and Alan "Bunny" Ijames; a sister, Betty Naylor; four brothers, William, Frank, Donald and John Arthur, all of Mocksville; his grandchildren, Justin Barker, Cullowhee, NC, Jonathan Barker, Kendra and Kisha Ijames and Christina Salley-Ijames, all of Winston-Salem; his mother-in-law, Lillian Speas; three sisters-in-law, Deloris (John) Harris, Ann Leak and Belinda (Alfonza) Harris; a brother-in-law, Lester Speas, Jr.; countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; amiable friend, Sallie Carr, Cleveland, NC; special niece, Major Amanda Leak Alexander; and his best friend/cousin, Clyde Scott, Sr. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Center Grove AME Zion Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the church. (Clark S. Brown and Sons)
