Asa Fall Coats, 69, died at 8:45 PM Saturday, Aug. 31, 1968, in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he had been patient since Aug. 7; he had been in poor health for two years. Born Jan. 16, 1899, in Benton County, he moved to Lafayette 30 years ago. In 1943, in Hammond, he married Helen Shamp, who survives.

Mr. Coats served with the Army Air Corps during World War II, and worked for 22 years in the shipping department of the Aluminum Company of America, Lafayette Works, until his retirement in 1964. He was a member of American Legion Post 11 of Lafayette and the Aluminum Workers of America Local 115.

Surviving with his widow are brothers, Ezra Coats of Templeton and William Coats of Brookston; also several nieces and nephews. Service Sept. 3, Soller-Baker Main Chapel, the Rev. James F. Marin officiating; internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
