"Lucius B. Martin was born 1838, Toney Hill Bay, Barnwell County, South Carolina. About 1843, he removed to Lowndes Co., GA along with his family, where he grew to manhood. When the War began, Lucius B. Martin joined Co. G, 26th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment, on 21 Sept 1861, along with his brother McDuffie Martin and his nephew, Wm Columbus Martin.

L.B. Martin deployed to Virginia where the 26th GA fought under Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. Lucius Martin was present for duty on the muster rolls of 28 Feb 1862. Company G "Bartow Light Infantry", 26th Georgia Infantry, Lawton's Brigade, Jackson's Division, 2nd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.


Enlisted for 12 months' service on 9/21/1861 in Lowndes' County, GA, he was mustered into Captain Benjamin F. Moseley's Company, 13th Georgia Infantry, as a Private. (This company subsequently became Company G, 26th Georgia Infantry.)

Present on Sept 21 to Oct 31, 1861 Roll.

Present, Sick in Camp on Nov & Dec 1861 Roll.

Present on Jan & Feb 1862 Roll.

Admitted with acute diarrhea 6/14/1862 into C.S.A. General Hospital, Charlottesville, VA; died there.


The 26th Georgia Infantry Regiment [also called 13th Regiment] completed its organization in October, 1861, at Brunswick, Georgia. Its companies were recruited in the couties of Charlton, Berrien, Glynn, Twiggs, Clinch, Ware, Coffee, and Wayne.
