Early Life: Garn was born March 22, 1925, in Provo, Utah, to Vern Elmo and Maude Pierce Carter. He was raised in Provo, spending his whole life there. He had five siblings that he loved very much. Garn was a big brother to Helen Zobell, Laverne Hancock, Betty Johnson, Orvil Carter, and Darwin (Clara) Carter.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Garn started his career as a taxi driver, then worked in an Air Craft Plant (civilian employment) during World War II. He then apprenticed in carpentry and worked as a carpenter for several years. He completed his career as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 26 years of service. On February 7, 1953, he married his wife, Lenore Joyce "Johnnie" Sanderson; their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 24, 1967. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many callings. He was also a temple worker in the Provo Utah Temple for six years and loved serving there. loved to fish, hunt, hunt for arrowheads and work in his garden. Later, he became an avid golfer. He spent many mornings at the Provo Golf Course with the "over the hill gang." Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Garn V. Carter, of Provo, Utah, passed away July 7, 2013 of causes incident to age. He was 88.
Survived By: His beloved wife, Lenore Carter; four children: Wayne (Robin) Carter, Rodney Carter, Marvin (Michelle) Carter, Alan Carter; all but one sibling; 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Preceded in Death By: His parents, sister, Helen Zobell, and daughter, Judy Ann.
