MORLEY - Harry Lee Hovis, 57, passed away in Moline, Ill., surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, Nov.17, 2010.

He was born to Cecil and Murriel (Deweese) Hovis on Feb. 2, 1953, in Ypsalanti.

He graduated from Morley Stanwood High School and had been a welder for most of his adult life. His positive attitude was an inspiration to many and his desire to help his fellow man was unwavering.
Harry was a true family man, always helping to plow out his loved ones driveways in the winter, playing with his grandchildren or helping his numerous friends with their projects. He loved hunting and fishing with his grandchildren and was an avid cook. Harry, who never met a stranger, will be fondly remembered for his outgoing personality.

He is survived by his daughters, Cheryll Hovis of Morley, Mandy Hovis of Grand Rapids and Dawn Hovis of Stanwood; grandchildren, Lexia Hovis, Damiane Lawton, Aprilann Welch and Ashley Welch; great-granddaughter, Olivia Romero; sisters, Alice (David) Cox of Moline, Ill. and Diana (Mike) Curtis of Spring Lake; brothers, Cecil (Barb) Hovis of Milan, Ill., John (Jennie) Hovis of Wichita Falls, Texas, Tom (Diane) Hovis of Moorehead, Ky. and Gary (Cindy) Hovis; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins that he loved greatly; special friends, Jackie Maranda, Kate Smith and Pastor Chris Cain all of the Quad City, Ill., Jay Griffes of Morley, Dale Peck of Coopersville, Artie Freiburger of Newaygo; and all of his friends close to home and far away.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where the family greeting friends from noon until 2 p.m.

Interment will follow at Aetna Twp. Cemetery in Morley.
