Jack Pogue Sr., age 92, died on July 3, 2013. Mr. Pogue was born in Merkel, Texas on January 27, 1921. He entered service during World War II as an airplane mechanic and received officer training at Yale University. He served in the African and European theaters with the 461st Bomb Group 15th Air Force, obtaining the rank of captain. He came to the Gulf Coast when he was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base, and settled there following his marriage to Dorothy. He lived in Pass Christian until his home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Mr. Pogue is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Hayden Pogue; his second wife, Inez Fernandez Wittmann Pogue; parents, Comer and Nona Pogue and brother Horace Pogue of Eastland Texas; daughter-in-law Kathleen McKeon Pogue; and grandson Edward Atwood Pogue.

Mr. Pogue is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Jack Pogue, Jr., of Norton, Ohio; Michael and Deborah Pogue and Robert and Deirdre Pogue of Cornwall, New York; grandchildren: Jack Pogue III, and wife Melissa and great granddaughter, Haley, of Barberton, Ohio, Courtenay Pogue and husband Chris Clark of Coralville, Iowa; Elizabeth Anne Pogue and husband Derek Warner of Wadsworth, Ohio; Amelia and Jeannie Pogue of Cornwall, New York; Michael Benjamin Pogue, wife and his great granddaughter Haley of Maryland; and step-sons and wives: Richard and Virginia Wittmann of Diamondhead; Dan Wittmann of Long Beach; Thomas and Patti Wittmann of Biloxi; and, Jeffrey and Lisa Wittmann of Largo Beach, Florida.

Family and friends may visit at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, July 8, 2013. The burial service will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at St. Paul Cemetary in Pass Christian.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that all memorial contributions be made to: The Pass Christian Historical Society, P.O. Box 58, Pass Christian, MS 39571.

Jack Pogue lived a full and joyful life. He enjoyed gardening and travel and loved his family and friends. The sons of Jack Pogue extend heartfelt thanks and love to: the Wittmann family who graciously welcomed our father into their family and did so much to help him over the years; Richard and Ruth Brasher who show us all what it means to be a good neighbor; and, the staff of the Ocean Springs Nursing Center who cared for "Mr. Jack" with such kindness, cheerfulness and attention.
