He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served in the U. S. Army Medical and Signal Corps during World War II. He retired after 39 years in the field of education, serving as a teacher, principal, advisor and assistant superintendent of schools in Braxton County until 1962 when he joined the staff of Glenville State College as director of field services and assistant professor of education. He served the state Department as coordinator of instructional services.
