Ralph was a knight of the household and in the King Richard II's army on the way to Scotland, when he was murdered between York and Bishopsthorpe by the King's half-brother, Sir John de Holland. The earldom passed to his younger brother, Thomas. His father died the following year on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
Sir Ralph was unmarried, buried at Langley.
His birth year is possibly 1367 based on Wikipedia statement: "One modern historian has suggested that Ralph was the closest friend the young King Richard II had at court; they were the same age and Ralph appears to have been "a bright and promising" courtier. Richard was born in 1367.
