Son of Styles and Mehitable (Brown) Beach. In 1826 Obediah was married to Mary Lang, daughter of Robert and Sylvia Lang, whom were among the first settlers of the town.

Obediah and Mary parented three sons. The Hon. Lewis Beach, resided on the old homestead in Tyrone, the Hon. Daniel Beach resided at Watkins, and the youngest son - Philip L. Beach - died in 1863 due to an illness contracted while serving his country during the War of the Union.

... Obadiah Beach was intimately and actively connected, and closely identified with the progress and development of the town. One who knew him well has truly observed, that the great changes which took place in Tyrone, ... were in no slight degree attributable to his, and his father's influence, efforts and example. He was noted for his industry, energy, integrity and intelligence, and was ever regarded as a good citizen and kind neighbor, and was greatly respected by a large number of friends and acquaintances. In his demeanor he was modest and unassuming, though a man of firm convictions and opinions, on all public matters, which were never changed for light or trivial reasons. Decision and firmness of purpose were marked traits in his character, and were strongly indicated by his countenance, which was nevertheless expressive of kindness and benevolence; and these characteristics have been transmitted to his children - nor have they been lacking in the elements of person popularity and success in life. - Watkins Express, Apr. 30, 1891.
