He was the son of John Franklin Pierce Miller (Duck) and Rispa Sharp. In the early 1900's Pat and his brother David Napoleon Miller road the rails to California never to return to Tennessee. Pat married Lydia Ruth Freeman daughter of Henry Baughman Freeman and Amelia Mary Luce.
Pat worked in the logging industry for a while and was working as a rigging operator and finally as Camp Boss. As his family increased in size he turned to farming and diary. He was also very active in the small community of Homes Flat, Humboldt Co., CA
