Ellwyn Barnett
OAKLAND — Ellwyn "Barney" Barnett, 72, of Oakland died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday (June 2, 1991) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Taber Funeral Home, Oakland, with the Rev. Peter Paul Bertoldo and the Rev. Don Funk officiating. Burial will be in Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was born June 7, 1918, in Hinesborough, the son of Roy and Nettie Lamb Barnett. He married Agnes Nolan in 1964; she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Bill Barnett of Oakland; three daughters, Mrs. Don (Margaret) Roberts of Cary, Mrs. David (Mary Jane) Hawkins of Long Grove, and Mrs. John (Donna) McVicar of Dieterich; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Long of Oakland, Mrs. Julian Ichkowski of Oakland and Mrs. Louise Laughead of Las Vegas; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Mr. Barnett was engaged in farming and later operated Barricks Cafe in Oakland. He was a past postmaster of Oakland and retired as chief examiner of drivers licenses for the state of Illinois. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Oakland VFW Post 3637.
Memorials may be made to the Oakland Senior Citizens Center.
