His first spouse?
Texas, Select County Marriage Index, 1837-1977 about Lela Simmons
Name: Lela Simmons
Gender: Female
Marriage Date: 21 Oct 1898
Marriage Place: Delta, Texas
Spouse: B M Eiland
The following are stories told by Beatrice Minton Granato (oldest child of Lois Eiland Minton)
Grandmother Eiland was born Lela Simmons to William Nelson Simmons and Martha Jane Brantley in March of 1880. She was born in Bear Creek, Sevier County, Arkansas.
When she became a Grandmother that's exactly what she wanted to be called "Grandmother". Not Granny, Grandma, Nana, etc., but Grandmother and don't you forget it. She had the sweetest disposition and was a real pussycat.
Grandmother Eiland made the best buttermilk pie I ever tasted. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
When she visited she recited poems to us. One she recited was:
"To bed, to bed " said Sleepy Head
" No wait a while" said Slow.
" Put on the Pot" said Greedy Gut
"Let's eat before we go!"
Another was a counting game: Briar Briar limber lock, 3 geese in a flock
One flew east, one flew west and one flew over the Cuckoo's nest.
Grandmother Eiland divorced Basil sometime between 1910 and 1920.
She married A. L. McClanahan and then divorced him between 1920 and 1930. She remained single until her death.
