Obituary:
Funeral services for Reurt de Groot, 94 longtime resident of the Sioux Center community, who died Thursday at a hospital, will be at 1:30 p. m. Monday at, the First Christian Reformed church here. Rev. B. J. Haan will officiate and burial will be in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg funeral home here. Mr. de Groot was born July 16, 1868, in The Netherlands and came to this country and to Sioux Center at the age of 20. He farmed near here before his retirement many years ago. He married Petje Katze in 1892 at Orange City. She died in 1943. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. John Vande Burg of Sioux Center; Mrs. Peter Veneklasen of Watertown, S. D.; Mrs. Peter Balkema of Orange City; Mrs. Wilton Brower of Denver, and Mrs. Clarence Bjork of Los Angeles; two sons, John of Maurice, la., and Cornelius of Sioux Center; a sister, Mrs. Lena Mollinar of Rock Rapids, la and another sister and brother in The Netherlands;. 31 grandchildren; 51 greatgrandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
