William was the son of Gustav & Caroline (Zelby) Mehnert. He had a older brother Frederick 1879-1951.

In 1912 he married Adelaide (Probably in Detroit). The couple had 3 daughters:
1. Caroline 1913-1933, m. Conrad W Batchelder,
ch Bonita M, Phyllis A & Conrad Alan
2. Rose L. b. abt 1915, m. H Cedrie Braund
3. Lillian b. abt 1921, m. Frank J Horwath

William came to America in 1890 and filed his Intention to become a US citizen in 1924. He worked as an engineer in various auto industry jobs.

From 1926-1931 he was an automobile dealer operating Mehnert Auto Sales. Through those years he sold Hudson-Essex, Nash, Oakland-Pontiac and Dodge vehicles.

In the 1940s Louis is shown as the owner of a trucking company selling stones and cinders
