BOUTTE SR., JOHN DURWARD
A retired mechanical supervisor with Exxon Chemical with 34 years of service and a resident of Clinton, he died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000. He was 76 and a native of Abbeville. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, flying Corsairs off the carrier USS Essex. He was also a veteran of the Korean War and flew helicopters in Japan. Visiting was at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Clinton, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Visiting at the funeral home, 11:30 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Penn Morgan and the Rev. Alvin Hall. Burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Survived by wife of more than 53 years, June Record Boutte, Clinton; a daughter, Anna Marie Boutte Smithand her husband, Donald Ernest Smith, Woodville, Miss.; a son, John D. Boutte Jr. and his wife, Janet Vetter Boutte, Kissimmee, Fla.; two sisters, Jeanne "Johnnie" Boutte Jordan and her husband, Tom Frank Jordan, Shreveport, and Jackie Boutte Taylor andher husband, Ken Taylor, Abbeville; five grandchildren, Noelle Antoinette Boutte, Christine Marie Boutte and John Darryl Boutte, all of Kissimmee, Beatrice June Smith and Donald Ernest Smith Jr., both of Woodville. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marie Antoinette Provost Boutte; a brother, Capt. Lester H. Boutte; a sister, Margie Boutte Boudion; and a grandson, John D. Boutte III.
He was a member of Clinton United Methodist Church, a lay leader, member of the board, choir member, a Sunday school teacher, MYF sponsor for more than nine years, a Scoutmaster of Troop 60, troop committee member and United Giver chairman. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 1158, Exxon Annuitant Fleur de Lis, Feliciana Forester Wildlife and Fisheries, and a member of East Feliciana Parish Special Deputies for more than 25 years. He served in the Peace Corps in 1963-1964 in Africa.
